Biography

blue underline

I am a psychotherapist that has been using climbing as catalyst for therapeutic change since 2022. Bolstered by SAMI and further AMGA training, I’d like to make climbing therapy more widely available to people across cultural and socioeconomic lines.

I found sanctuary in rock climbing in my early 30’s. Ten years ago, I moved from Hong Kong to Berkeley in pursuit of licensure in psychedelic and art psychotherapy. The closest gym Ironworks happened to have climbing walls and it quickly became my community center. Adventurous and nonjudgmental friends I met at Queer Crush shaped the path for me to access healing in climbing.

A very visceral emotional experience, I find liberation and freedom in alpine starts, trekking through fresh air and making power (and awkward!) poses to get up a mountain. Exercising autonomy to move as I please with respect to the earth is self reclamation of a body that has been repeatedly objectified and fetishized by forces of colonization and sexual violence. Inviting flow state where everything else irrelevant to the climb temporarily disappears is a superpower.
