Biography

blue underline

Lor fell in love with climbing at a gym in Detroit, Michigan when they were twelve years old. As a young climber, they split their time between competitive climbing and exploring sandstone crags in the southeast. After graduating from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management, they began working in the climbing industry as a guide, route setter, and coach. They now work as the Training Leader for the Warrior’s Way, a mental training organization that uses climbing as a foundation for developing awareness, engaging challenges with intention, and building personal power. Lor loves all types of climbing, but especially steep splitter cracks and desert towers. Outside of climbing, Lor works as a trauma therapist and is completing research that explores ways to approach adventure sports therapeutically for populations that have experienced systemic injustice.

Q & A

blue underline
  1. Who were your influences early in life?: When I started climbing, the staff at the local gym in Detroit went out of their way to look out for me. They always showed that they cared about me as a person rather than just a climber and to this day, they are still some of my closest friends and mentors.
  2. What draws you to the outdoors?: I love the sense of wonder and awe that I only get when I am outdoors.
  3. What’s your dream trip or expedition?: Anywhere with perfect weather, long days, and a psyched crew.
  4. What makes a good skiing/climbing/running/hiking partner?: I really appreciate climbing partners that are also good friends. I appreciate being able to communicate openly with a partner. It's also awesome when you are both psyched on an objective and get to share the energy of working on something together as a team.
